Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking a Certified Physician Assistant or surgically experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner for their Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology department. The role involves working with the GI Oncology team, assisting in surgeries, and providing patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

Working with the GI Oncology team, which includes two surgeons and three Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) providing four 10-hour shifts a week at one hospital
First and second assisting in the operating room
Rounding on inpatients, seeing consults and coordinating care of patients in the outpatient clinic
Weekday/weekend call will be shared equally with other providers (1:4)

Required

Current NCCPA or ANCC certification required and must also have an active license by the State of Florida by the time of hire
Board Certified Physician Assistant, Board Certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner who has active, relevant and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 500 acute care inpatient encounters over two years)
Board Certified Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner, who has active, relevant, and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 1,000 acute care inpatient encounters over two years)
APPs are required to maintain appropriate DEA prescription privileges/licensure
BLS required
Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Require bachelor degree from accredited physician assistant training program

Preferred

General Surgery, or Surgical Oncology experience is preferred
ACLS certification preferred
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated written & verbal communication & strong analytical skills
Ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and other allied health personnel in the hospital and/or office setting
Demonstrated clinical competency skills
Demonstrated knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to health care practice and current prescription writing skills/DEA licensing
Demonstrated skills in documentation in medical records to substantiate accurate billing
Effective interaction skills to ensure the successful care of patients in the clinical setting
Effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations
Knowledge of state, federal and local health care agencies and programs
