ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN I – Trust Fund - Commissary and Trust Fund - Huntsville (921018 921022)

The Texas Department Of Criminal Justice is seeking an Accounting Technician I to perform routine technical accounting support work. This role involves recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, and reports under moderate supervision.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Prepares, reviews, and proofs reports, correspondence, accounting transactions, deposits, withdrawals, vouchers, and other trust fund forms
Compiles, organizes, and tabulates data; reviews and post information to agency records; modified forms and records; and performs data entry, retrieval, and data searches
Retrieves and distributes documents, supplies, equipment, records, inmate files, and other items to agency offices and unit locations; opens, sorts, and distributes mail; and maintains logs of document processing and other related records
Answers inquiries regarding policies and procedures; performs receptionist and telephone switchboard duties; and maintains files, records, and documents in an automated system
Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed

Required

Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED
One year full-time, wage-earning customer service, clerical, secretarial, administrative support, or accounting clerical experience. Fifteen semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for each six months of experience
Must have a valid Class C driver license. Must maintain valid license(s) for continued employment in position
Knowledge of data entry procedures and document flow
Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely
Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public
Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Skill in problem-solving techniques
Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports
Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment
Skill to perform data entry and retrieval of information
Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment

Preferred

Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred
