Responsibilities
Lead development of complex machine learning and statistical models
Translate business needs into well-defined data science problems
Build, train, evaluate, and deploy predictive and forecasting models
Analyze large, complex datasets related to electric utility operations
Communicate insights clearly to business and leadership teams
Develop dashboards, reports, and executive-level presentations
Mentor junior data scientists and support best practices
Collaborate in Agile / Scrum environments
Develop and implement machine learning models using frameworks such as TensorFlow, Spark MLlib, and other AI tools to analyze large-scale utility data
Design and optimize ETL processes for efficient data ingestion from various sources, including Hadoop, SQL databases, and linked data repositories
Conduct data mining and exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for operational improvements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy models into production environments utilizing model deployment best practices
Utilize cloud services like AWS for scalable data processing and storage solutions
Perform database design and management to support analytics initiatives with tools such as SAS, Talend, and Looker
Apply natural language processing techniques for unstructured data analysis related to customer feedback or operational reports
Develop dashboards and visualizations to communicate insights effectively using tools like Looker or VBA-based reporting systems
Stay current with emerging trends in machine learning, quantum engineering applications in data science, and big data analytics to continuously improve methodologies
Qualification
Required
6–10+ years of experience in Data Science / Advanced Analytics
Strong expertise in Machine Learning, Statistics, and Mathematics
Hands-on experience with Python, R, and SQL
Experience with Pandas, Scikit-learn, Spark
Experience with forecasting, predictive modeling, optimization
Strong communication and stakeholder-facing skills
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or related field
Proven experience as a Data Scientist or similar role within utility or electric operations sectors
Strong programming skills in Python, R, Java, Bash (Unix shell), and VBA
Extensive knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, SAS, Spark MLlib, and related tools
Expertise in big data technologies including Hadoop, Spark, and ETL processes with Talend or similar platforms
Proficiency in SQL database design and management; experience with linked data concepts is a plus
Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS for scalable analytics solutions
Experience with model training, deployment, natural language processing, AI applications, and analytics methodologies
US Driver's License required; candidates must be local or willing to commute to San Ramon CA
Preferred
Knowledge of quantum engineering principles applicable to advanced data science projects is desirable
