The City of Dallas is seeking an experienced attorney to join the City Attorney’s Office in the Government Services Section. The role involves negotiating and drafting complex contracts, providing legal advice on various issues to city officials, and conducting legal research and drafting opinions.

Responsibilities

Engage in legal work involving trials, claims, taxation, condemnation, or other types of legal work using well established legal procedures and precedents to perform a variety of professional legal functions
Work independently to perform legal work requiring specialization in trial, claims, taxation, condemnation, or other types of legal work
Provide advice and counsel to the Dallas City Council, the city manager, the city secretary, and city departments on various legal issues, including procurement, emergency management, health care privacy, utility regulations and franchising issues, environmental issues, sanitation, aviation, technology and cybersecurity, credit processing services, benefits, deferred compensation, water utilities, and municipal finance
Negotiate complex contracts for engineering services, consultant services, software, staffing, the public library system, municipal courts, technology and cybersecurity, Dallas Water Utilities, professional services, risk management, interlocal agreements, and many other contracts relating to government services
Research and draft legal opinions
Occasionally work with and advise litigators on matters

Required

Minimum of five years of experience negotiating, drafting, and reviewing contracts
Licensed to practice law in Texas
In good standing with the State Bar of Texas
Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred

Experience in municipal law
Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws and program requirements pertinent to the procurement of city goods and services
