The role involves following quality management systems, preparing laboratory equipment, testing products, documenting results, and ensuring safety compliance.

Responsibilities
Responsible for all duties and responsibilities of Assistant Laboratory Technician. Follow Quality Control Plans for specific material testing and specifications
General preparation of laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or process control
Follow written ISO procedures for analysis and testing
Test and analyze products to determine strength, stability, purity, chemical content, and other characteristics
Document results of test and analysis accurately and neatly on written worksheet and computer hardcopy
Prepare chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures
Inventory of lab supplies and chemicals
Notify proper authority of lab results and record findings as necessary on batch sheet. Conduct necessary performance and calibration procedures
Verify incoming raw materials with Raw Material Specifications
Qualification
Required
High school or GED, or at least five years laboratory work experience in polyurethane rubber technology and quality control testing
Must attend all Safety Training programs including Mill Safety Instructions in accordance with Department Training Plan
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel or have sufficient training in Word and/or Excel
Ability to read and write English
Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written form
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Material Safety Data Sheet, written instructions, and procedure manuals
Must be computer literate with word processing and spreadsheet applications
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and simple math
Ability to convert units of measure (12th grade math level)
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

This position will require significant times in the standing position and occasional moderate lifting (maybe 10 to 15 pounds). Heavier lifting, when needed, may be done with the assistance of a second person
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
The employee may encounter dust, dirt and oil
The employee must wear protective clothing, gloves, safety glasses and a lab coat, as appropriate for the task being performed
The employee will work with sensitive instruments, heavy machinery (mills and presses), and toxic, caustic, and corrosive chemicals
