Responsibilities

Delivering courses and teaching up to 30 credits for the academic year of General Education Department specific and department-related coursework
Collaborating with peer department instructors to ensure courses and curriculum meet student and business needs
Providing academic advising of program students as necessary
Assisting with retention and resource development activities
Preparing and teaching assigned courses in curriculum
Facilitating the learning process that creates a safe non-threatening climate which supports learning across the curriculum
Participating in assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet program outcomes
Teaching up to 30 credit hours per year online and onsite in classroom and laboratory settings
Teaching various writing courses, including, but not limited to, WRIT101: College Writing I, WRIT121: Intro to Technical Writing and WRIT122: Intro to Business Writing
Teaching corequisite or “enhanced” courses
Collaborating with related programs regarding their needs for writing curriculum
Supporting student success including office hours and advising
Improving and refining curriculum and course content to meet the needs of changing student populations
Assessing student learning at the course, program, and institutional level
Participating in university service by participating in committees and activities as appropriate to position
Serving on committees, task force(s), and special projects contributing to the growth of the Program, City College, and Montana State University Billings
Maintaining appropriate certifications and licenses
Maintaining proficiency in teaching and specialty expertise
Maintaining expertise in discipline
Attending selected professional development activities
Maintaining currency in writing education through the review of relevant journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to include existing and emerging technologies, including underlying educational principles

Required

Master's degree with 9 graduate credits in English or a related field from a regionally accredited University
Experience teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level
Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques to enhance student success
Experience with teaching traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated commitment to supporting under-prepared students
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong organizational skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Effective time management skills
Commitment to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff
Ability to represent the college and the university as a professional
Knowledge of university policies and procedures
A passion for education that supports individual, economic, and social change
Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of students
Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred

Master's Degree in English or Writing
Educational background in instructional methodology
Experience teaching underprepared/developmental learners
Demonstrated experience teaching with a Learning Management System (i.e. Desire2Learn, Canvas, etc)
