10+ years expWSP is one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms, and they are seeking a Lead Macroinvertebrate Taxonomist to join their water service line team. The successful candidate will support the taxonomic laboratory in Gainesville, Florida, focusing on the identification of marine and freshwater macroinvertebrate samples and providing mentorship to junior staff.
Information Technology & Services
Responsibilities
Perform taxonomic identification of freshwater and marine invertebrates
Complete quality assurance and quality control measures
Complete data entry in a SQL relational database
Perform calculations for biodiversity indices for reporting
Work with staff on project tasks in a team environment
Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior staff
Work on proposal writing and business development
Project management of taxonomy projects
Strong commitment to company's "Beyond Zero" safety program; follow company safety standards, site safety standards and maintain safe workplace practices
Qualification
Required
Master Degree in Biology, Ecology or related discipline
Experience with some or all of the following: benthic macroinvertebrate taxonomy, zooplankton, phytoplankton, and/or periphyton, aquatic habitat assessment and sampling techniques, macroinvertebrate history and habitat requirements
Experience with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Standard Operation Procedures for Macroinvertebrate laboratory processing
Proficiency in using the Suite of MS Office products
Strong oral and written communication skills; proven ability to prepare reports and proposals
The position is located in the Gainesville, FL office
Preferred
Experience within marine and freshwater macroinvertebrates from Florida
