Mechanical Engineer - Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering

The role involves assisting in the design of various mechanical systems and supporting project success through technical analyses and coordination with design partners.

Responsibilities
Assist in the design of various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, steam, and gas systems. Mechanical system design includes preparing calculations for both pressurized and gravity driven systems to size lines, material selection, and correct Code requirement application
Prepare design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment
Review project contracts, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual documents and incorporate into the design as required to ensure the project meets or exceeds project goals
Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities
Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards
Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI’s, providing creative design solutions, etc
Coordinate with other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results
Assist in developing schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion
Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement
Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project or department development
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year university
Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Regular, reliable attendance
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required
Preferred
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification
GPA above 3.0
Experience with AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent)
