The City of Sunrise is seeking an Engineering Aide to provide office and technical support for the engineering staff. This role involves various duties such as data entry, assisting in permitting, and maintaining engineering records.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Participates in the maintenance of department engineering records and reports; files and retrieves material; maintains records; and posts data to records
Enters data, prepares formulas, and hyper-links files among computer programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Word
Researches records
Tracks engineering permits and plan review submittal packages
Prepares and coordinates the developer packets for execution for projects
Compiles, calculates, and provides requirement information for permits
Reviews proposed developments and calculates plant connection fees in accordance with the technical requirements of assigned area; coordinates with other City departments
Provides technical review and recommends approval for developer completed documents
Reviews required submittals for pre-construction meetings
Coordinates schedules and attends the pre-construction meeting; prepares meeting minutes; and then disseminates appropriately
Provides assistance and direction to the development community, contractors, and residents regarding the processing of engineering plans, permits, and documents
Collects compiles and participates in the analysis of information relative to department project studies; assembles and prepares collected data for further use; maintains daily and monthly records; and reports work progress and test results
Processes related purchase orders, invoices, and payment paperwork
Keeps track of related budget and expenses
Conducts field inspections as requested
Operates office equipment including personal computers, fax machines, copiers (including the Blueprint copier), and calculators
Sorts and distributes internal and external correspondence to staff; answers technical questions regarding engineering projects; and provides general information to the public
Assists in renewing required licenses of City facilities and parks
Maintains and updates the City’s copy of the Flood Insurance Rate Map
Assists in maintaining and administrating assigned programs
Accepts and reviews applications for easements
Prepares various technical letters and memos for signature
Performs related work as required

Required

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of GED diploma
PROOF OF HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION. (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.)
Reasonable work experience in support of engineering related work
Ability to utilize electronic plan review and related databases effectively and efficiently
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, surveys and sketches, blueprints, and other related documents
Ability to interpret and explain City codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially, as they may be applicable to engineering projects and issues
Ability to comprehend and review engineering plans, surveys, and legal description for accuracy and completeness
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Ability to perform complex mathematical computations and complete simple drawings
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to organize and maintain tracking systems for complex projects
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, city officials, supervisors, fellow employees, vendors, the general public and other outside organizations with the goal of fostering positive employee relations and employee morale
Ability to effectively prepare and maintain records and reports
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and use tact and independent judgement to address escalated situations
Demonstrates a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged in any activity involving the public while demonstrating an understanding, consideration, and respect for cultural, religious and gender differences

City-Paid Medical Benefits
Group Health Insurance: The City pays for 100% of the cost for single coverage for full-time employees and 66.66% of cost for Dependent/Family Coverage. Upon retirement and separation from City employment, employee receives a monthly stipend of $350 per month, applicable toward retiree health coverage.

Early Retirement = Age 57 and ten (10) years of creditable service, 3% annual reduction for each year prior to normal retirement age
13th check based on monthly retirement, payable if the pension plan funding status is equal to or greater than 100%. Paid in December each year following retirement
Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) = 4 years/48 months maximum
DROP Interest Rate = 4%, compounded annually
Based on successful completion of full-time, continuous service with the City, employee shall receive the following: Years of Creditable Service Longevity Benefit• 10 Years 2.5% 15 Years 2.5% 20 Years 5.0%
Employees receive the following City-paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day
Annual leave may be taken as earned after completion of (90) calendar days. Maximum accumulation each fiscal year is 290 hours. At time of resignation or retirement, employee is paid for all annual leave accrued at their current rate of pay.
Annual Leave Cash Out: Employee can opt to receive a non-pensionable cash payment twice per year for up to forty (40) hours of annual leave, provided accrued annual leave bank does not fall below eighty (80) hours.
Upon completion of (26) weeks of full-time employment with the City, employee shall be entitled to utilize up to five (5) floating holidays per fiscal year. Floating holidays shall not carry over to the next fiscal year.
For every six (6) months period (April 1 - September 30) and (October 1 - March 31) in which, no sick or unpaid leave is utilized, an employee shall receive ten (10) hours of annual leave credited.
Each employee earns (96) hours (12 days) of sick leave annually with no waiting period for use and unlimited accrual.
Upon separation of City employment due to resignation, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of twenty-five percent (25%) of the employee’s current rate of pay at time of resignation.
After one (1) year of continuous, full-time employment with the City, an employee may convert their unused portion of their first six (6) days (maximum of forty-eight (48) hours) of accrued sick leave into annual leave.
Qualifying City-paid Bereavement Leave as follows: In State = Up to 3 Days, Out of State = Up to 5 Days
After one (1) year of full-time employment: 100% reimbursement for a grade of A or B, 50% reimbursement for a grade of C, $250 books/lab reimbursement per semester
