Neighborhood Inspections Supervisor
City of Des Moines is seeking a Neighborhood Inspections Supervisor who will supervise and direct staff involved in enforcing various city ordinances. The role involves coordinating housing, environmental health, and zoning code enforcement while ensuring high levels of customer service and staff training.

Responsibilities
Directs, supervises and coordinates housing, health and zoning code enforcement
Promotes and demonstrates a high level of customer service
Provides procedural direction and technical assistance to inspectors and promotes staff involvement in individual goal setting and decision-making
Trains staff in handling violation notices, legal actions, licensing requirements, billing and tracking processes and nuisance abatement efforts
Performs periodic quality control inspections to ensure proper application of procedures and standards by inspectors
Assures records regarding inspections are properly maintained
Develops and implements systems to improve and simplify the delivery of services
May attends City board, commission, neighborhood and other public meetings and act as staff advisor upon request
May testify in court regarding code violations
Prepares correspondence and written reports
Recommends changes on code amendment issues and participates in development of departmental policy
Coordinates the activities of inspectors with functions performed by other governing agencies
Assures staff are fulfilling duties consistent with departmental policy and mission and takes corrective action as necessary
Performs related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited high school (or GED)
Three years of experience in housing, zoning or environmental health code enforcement for the City of Des Moines or other similar city
One year of additional education may be substituted for up to one year of required experience
Possession of a valid certification as a Property Maintenance Inspector (or its equivalent) OR both a (1) Housing Code Inspector and a (2a) Zoning Inspector or an (2b) Environmental Health Technician
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen
Possession of a valid Iowa Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility
Submittal of applicable certificates, licenses, out of state driving records and/or transcripts is required by the application deadline
