Transportation Engineer/Transportation Engineering Associate II (61031977) *RE-ADVERTISEMENT*
The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer/Transportation Engineering Associate II to perform structural design and analysis of complex highway structural systems. The role involves preparing bridge plans, reviewing plans for compliance with standards, and serving as a team leader when necessary.
Civil Engineering
Responsibilities
Performs structural design and analysis of complex highway structural systems and components using applicable methods including computer software conforming to the latest AASHTO, FHWA and SCDOT specifications and policies
Components to be designed/analyzed may include slabs, bents, footings, piers, beams, walls, culverts, non-standard pipes, miscellaneous roadway structures and other superstructure and substructure components
Computes structure geometry and quantities involved in plan preparation
Determines appropriate pay items for plans
Prepares complex bridge plans and roadway structure plans by utilizing CADD
This includes skewed and curved layouts for various types of highway structures
Reviews structural plans prepared by others to verify plans are in accordance with SCDOT standards and current design standards are met
Prepares technical specifications for structures
Serves as structure design team leader in the absence of the structure design team leader
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management
One (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience
An approved acceptable equivalence
A valid motor vehicle operator's license
Ability to perform structural design and analysis of complex highway structural systems and components
Ability to use applicable methods including computer software conforming to the latest AASHTO, FHWA and SCDOT specifications and policies
Ability to compute structure geometry and quantities involved in plan preparation
Ability to determine appropriate pay items for plans
Ability to prepare complex bridge plans and roadway structure plans by utilizing CADD
Ability to review structural plans prepared by others to verify plans are in accordance with SCDOT standards
Ability to prepare technical specifications for structures
Ability to serve as structure design team leader in the absence of the structure design team leader
Ability to perform physical demands including sitting or standing for extended periods of time
Ability to travel as required
Ability to perform bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling
Ability to drive and walk for extended periods
Ability to tread rough and uneven terrain
Ability to work in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards
Ability to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies
Ability to be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise
