Responsibilities

Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others

Consults with and serves as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for, evaluation of, and development of, psychological services in OVHCS

May be asked to assist in the selection, training, and supervision of staff at lower grades within assigned program area, Psychology Service, or OVHCS

Willingly accepts additional and special assignments that are necessary to meet program goals or Veteran needs

Completes all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or healthcare system in a timely and accurate manner, as appropriate

Manages the Behavioral Health Lab (BHL) Software and develops a working knowledge of the production end of the BHL software program

Assists in coordinating and implementing technology and training in regard to the use of telehealth across sites of care

Prepares timely summaries of collected data to the direct supervisor

Consult management duties as assigned

Support of unlicensed staff as assigned

May be selected by the supervisory psychologist or Chief of Psychology to serve as the psychology service representative on various Psychology Service, Mental Health and Behavioral Services, System-level, or VISN administrative committees or work groups

May coordinate programming within both various mental health and primary care programs in coordination with managers of such programs as well as with discipline supervisors of affected staff assigned to these programs

May be involved in research activities, especially as related to program evaluation responsibilities

May manage the work of various clinical programs and their staff, ensuring that work is assigned in a systematic way and meets facility and VA guidelines/standards

May manage program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using data driven quality assurance processes if assigned

Qualification

Required

Must hold a master's or doctoral degree in: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; or a related field

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy

Education: Hold a master's or doctoral degree in: Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)

Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions in the GS-0183 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, which includes diagnosis and treatment

English Language Proficiency: LPMHCs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3.j

Must be proficient in written and spoken English

Must pass pre-employment physical examination

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
