Responsibilities

Performs the technical role for motion data collection for clinical patient testing including: three dimensional gait data collection (validation, tracking, processing, and application of skeletal models), EMG data collection and processing, immediate data integrity checking for all data, support for physical examination measures in collaboration with the CMA clinical staff and printing and storage (primary and backup) of gait data for interpretation
Serves as primary and backup tester for the technical role in research data collection including: three-dimensional movement analysis, data collection (validation, tracking, processing, and application of skeletal models), EMG data collection and processing, additional protocols as required by research studies (for example: impedance testing and strength testing) and immediate data integrity checking for all data
Performs the clinical role for motion data collection in research applications including: marker placement for three-dimensional motion analysis for the head, trunk, pelvis and upper and lower extremities. EMG electrode placement and validation exercises and instruction of patient/subject through appropriate protocols

Motion Data Analysis and Presentation for Research: provides tabulated and plotted motion data for interpretation using Vicon software, Matlab (or equivalent), for trunk, pelvis and lowerand upper extremities. Provides preliminary interpretation and analysis of motion analysis and related data
Quality Assurance: Maintain data quality and assurance through equipment validations including: system checks, calibrations, electrical testing, and other quality assurance testing as described by the Center for Motion Analysis’ operational guides and accreditation procedures
Educational Support: Provides support to the educational goals of the Center for Motion Analysis by performing video editing, masking of videos (required for de-identification of videos for conferences), and creation of video records for the pre-operative meeting for the Connecticut Children’s Orthopedic surgeons
Demonstrates knowledge of the population-specific differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from age 3 through adults and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers
Willing to modify role responsibilities at the discretion of the manager of the Center for Motion Analysis
Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center STANDARDS

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Biomedical Engineering, with a mechanics, instrumentation, nanotechnology, or electronics concentration
Experience in motion data collection, processing, and analysis
Experience in quality assurance testing and documentation of testing protocols
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of staff with varying backgrounds
Knowledge of muscle and skeletal anatomy
Quality control methodologies related to clinical testing procedures and instrumentation
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated proficiency in Windows environment; intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point, and the use of the internet as a research tool
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
Organize, analyze, evaluate and interpret data
Attention to detail, problem solving, be organized, and work in a fast-paced environment with children and adults
Work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community with a wide variety of expertise

Preferred

Familiarity with Matlab and other research and statistical programs such as SAS
Familiarity with Vicon Nexus/Workstation, Polygon, and other relevant motion capture software
