Special Deputy Attorney General
The North Carolina Department of Justice is seeking a Special Deputy Attorney General to handle serious and complex lawsuits at all levels of state and federal courts. This role involves devising legal strategies, consulting with various agencies, and providing guidance to other attorneys in the office.

Responsibilities
Perform the most advanced professional legal work with responsibility for handling serious, complex, novel, controversial, high profile and protracted lawsuits at all levels in all courts of the State and the United States
Devise and implement strategy, and tactics for resolving suits in a manner consistent with the policies of the State and the interest of citizens
Confer with the Senior Deputy Attorney General in charge of the Special Litigation Division for purposes of marshaling the necessary legal and administrative resources to properly administer cases
Provide the mature and experienced leadership necessary for their proper and successful handling
Consult and work with clients in other agencies and keep those clients appropriately informed about the status of suits involving them
Work with other attorneys in the division or in Legal Services on e-discovery aspects of complex litigation
Serve as a resource for other attorneys and paralegals on e-discovery issues
Consult with and provide litigation guidance and training for other attorneys in the Attorney General’s Office
Handle criminal briefs on appeal by the defendant to the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court
Review the trial transcript, research applicable law and file the brief in accordance with the Rules of Appellate Procedure
Follow the matter through to final disposition by the Supreme Court if decisions made by the Court of Appeals are appealed
Represent the State at the oral argument if a case is selected for oral argument by the Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court
Qualification
Required
Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar
Five years of progressively responsible professional legal experience
Significant civil litigation experience
Strong oral and written advocacy skills
