Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing payroll for over 275 US employees, ensuring accuracy in payroll transactions, and addressing any payroll-related inquiries. This role also involves automating payroll systems to enhance efficiency as the company grows.

Responsibilities
Lead, manage, maintain and process all US payroll for 275+ employees; ensure all employee payroll transactions are processed accurately and paid timely
Perform weekly and bi-weekly review of payroll and timecard data to verify accuracy and check for any outliers, while partnering with managers to ensure time entry is accurate and manager approved
Ensure garnishments, time data, pay adjustments, benefits, taxes and all deductions are computed correctly, reviewing withholding information (employee and employer taxes), and resolution of all payroll issues and concerns
Run and reconcile monthly benefit deduction audits and other monthly payroll audits
Manage and coordinate STI and SUI accounts for the Rekor enterprise as well as resolve any tax changes that impact Rekor payroll
Support business partners with payroll, OT, and cost reporting
Responsible for all input and verification of employee data to support on and off-cycle payrolls
Process and validate special payments such as one-time bonuses and monthly commissions
Facilitate and respond to questions from employees related to payroll, pay-related inquiries, wage deductions, PTO accruals, benefits, etc. with professionalism, confidentiality and discretion
Process prior quarter/prior year tax adjustments as needed
Understand taxation of employer paid benefits, employee pre-tax deductions, and earnings with specific taxation methods
Ability to identify and encourage continuous improvement measures relating to automation, procedures and processes
Maintain state and local tax registrations

Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field preferred
3-5 years of experience being accountable for the payroll function for a mid-size national company
Prior experience running payroll in ADP strongly preferred
Knowledge and experience with general ledger and Sage preferred
Location: Columbia, MD In office preferred with flexible hybrid arrangements
