Responsibilities

Provides adequate engineering supervision to contractors involved in highly complex construction projects
Provides engineering solutions to design problems and unique conditions involving new construction techniques
Maintains adequate project records and coordinates multi-job projects so that they adhere to schedules
Resolves complaints from private citizens and local government agencies regarding project inconveniences
Ensures proper safety usage and traffic control by contractors
Provides and maintains a safe work environment for subordinate personnel
Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules
Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualification

Required

Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
Four years of experience in civil engineering
Requires a valid driver's license
Requires districtwide travel
Requires successful completion of a background screening

Preferred

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering
Thorough knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction, and maintenance of public works
Knowledge of plans and specifications for construction projects including highways, streets and structures
Ability to supervise the work of other engineers and technicians
Ability to perform difficult technical research and make comprehensive recommendations on engineering problems
Good oral and written communication skills
