Research/Data Analyst I

CHEManager International is part of the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, which aims to help Mississippians secure employment. The Research/Data Analyst I will be responsible for producing labor market projections, analyzing datasets, and preparing reports to inform employment trends.

Responsibilities

Produce 2-year and 10-year industry and occupational employment projections using ETA/BLS methodology and Projections Suite tools
Collect, validate, and analyze labor market datasets, including QCEW, CES, and OEWS
Use statistical and economic models to forecast industry and occupational employment trends
Maintain and update industry-occupation staffing patterns and NAICS-to-SOC classification mappings
Conduct research on demographic, economic, and industry trends to inform projection assumptions
Perform quality assurance and control to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of data and projection outputs
Prepare reports, tables, charts, and narrative summaries for publication

Required

Strong mathematics background
Strong communication skills
Ability and knowledge to use statistical software
Ability to explain data in written grammatically correct format
Strong proofing skills
Ability to analyze data and identify trends
Knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel, Access database & Word
Computer, telephone, organizational and time management skills
Ability to apply statistical principles
Knowledge of data analysis, economics modeling or statistics
All applicants must have a valid driver's license
Pass an extensive background check

Preferred

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience
Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, mathematics, data analytics, social sciences, or a related field
Specialized training in gathering and interpreting statistical data
Two (2) years of experience working with Projections Suite or other labor market forecasting tools

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.
Military Leave In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
