Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive daily inspections of electrical and IT systems across building and terminal construction projects
Ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, applicable codes, and LAWA standards
Review and interpret construction documents, including:
Blueprints and shop drawings
Submittals
RFIs
Change orders
Prepare detailed daily inspection reports clearly documenting the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities
Accurately track progress, identify issues, deficiencies, and safety concerns, and report findings in a timely manner
Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes, including NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, and 72, as well as LAWA-specific requirements
Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities
Assist with validation of contractor progress payment requests based on approved schedules of values
Support special inspections and testing activities and coordinate with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as required
Utilize electronic systems and inspection tools to efficiently manage contract documents with minimal supervision
Electrical Inspection Scope Includes
Underground utilities and duct banks
High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels
Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems
Interior and exterior lighting systems
Fire and life safety systems, including smoke and heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems
Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination
IT and Low-Voltage Inspection Scope Includes
Voice and data systems
Security and access control systems
Door card readers
Security cameras (CCTV)
Public address (P.A.) systems
Communication cabling
Equipment and telecom rooms
Computer and Software Knowledge
Proficiency with project management and inspection documentation systems, including but not limited to:
Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
PM Web
Adobe Pro
Bluebeam
Qualification
Required
Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Electrical Inspector
Minimum 3 years of experience performing electrical and/or IT inspections for building construction
Proof of NFPA 70E standards training completed within the last 3 years
Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-hour training completed within the last 4 years
Training and working knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 72
Fall protection and harness training
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred
Journey-level experience as an electrician, with emphasis on installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial environments
Experience overseeing construction work and enforcing compliance with applicable building codes and regulations on large or complex projects
Experience working on projects requiring coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, inspectors, and city or agency officials
Demonstrated ability to identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are implemented to meet required standards
Openness to learning and applying agency-specific prescriptive requirements
Strong understanding of diverse electrical and IT code requirements
Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills
