(NP/PA) APP Supervisor, BMT & Cellular Therapy
UC San Diego Health is seeking a Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy APP Supervisor to oversee Advanced Practice Providers in an oncology setting. This role involves supervising staff, providing patient care, and collaborating with management to improve operational efficiency and quality of care.
Responsibilities
Supervise Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) in inpatient and outpatient oncology settings
Provide care for oncology patients and families, collaborating with faculty
Perform exams, order diagnostic and screening tests, diagnose and treat patients, develop plans of care, document patient medical history and care, and educate patients and families
Oversee APPs in daily operations, ensuring adherence to ethics and quality standards in patient care delivery
Collaborate with senior management on operational and performance issues and develop new plans and programs to improve and integrate APP functions and systems
Develop and implement APP Best Practice Models
Ensure appropriate professional development opportunities are developed and implemented
Qualification
Required
Must be a graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
NP: Current California RN license, Nurse Practitioner license, and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification
PA: Current California Physician Assistant (PA) license and current PA Certification from NCCPA
BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date
A minimum three (3) years of recent work experience as a licensed NP or PA in Hem/Onc or BMT
Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and to manage the complex workflow and competing priorities involved with providing quality care as an Advanced Practice Provider
Solid knowledge of the clinical and operational issues for APPs (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) performing advanced-practice nursing within departments and specialty areas, including evaluation, testing, diagnosis, and treatment, and patient-care concepts, policies, outcomes measurement, quality standards, ethics issues, quality improvement, and continuing staff education and professional development
Thorough knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document staff issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions
Excellent interpersonal skills for effective collaborations with all levels of clinical staff and management, consultants, researchers, and outside agencies
Solid written and verbal communications skills. Ability to train and mentor subordinates, convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals
Knowledge of clinical and administrative software and specialized applications and data management systems used by nurse practitioners in providing advanced-practice nursing care, research, documentation, and employee supervision
Preferred
BMT experience as an NP or PA
Recent inpatient APP experience
Experience with related procedures such as bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture and skin biopsy
AOCN (Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse)/AOCNP certification
