Responsibilities

Develop and maintain software packages for the analysis of functional optical imaging data (e.g., one- and two-photon calcium and voltage imaging)
Develop and maintain local and browser-based user interfaces for these packages
Work closely with other research software engineers to coordinate APIs and wrappers to link the optical imaging analysis suites to other synchronously monitored signals (e.g. electrophysiology or behavioral videography)
Support the adoption and use of the software by the worldwide scientific community through dissemination efforts, including publishing written documentation and video tutorials, and assisting with workshops
Work closely with machine learning researchers at UTSW and ZI to incorporate new algorithms into the software packages
Analyzes and develops formalisms, algorithms and software for applications in biomedical research
Develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems
Performs the development, testing and revision of programs in a team with diverse bioinformatics expertise
Advises and assists users and other personnel in analyzing, defining and resolving computational problems
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Education Master's Degree M.S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, (Bio)mathematics, (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field or Bachelor's Degree B.S. with demonstrated experience in broadly defined areas of bioinformatics
Experience 2 years of post-graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development for a Master's degree 4 years of post-graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development for a Bachelor's degree
