Machine Operator Streets
The City of Stoughton is seeking a skilled and motivated Streets Machine Operator to join their Public Works Department. The role involves operating heavy and light equipment for street repair, snow and ice removal, and general public works activities to maintain safe and functional city infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Operating and maintaining equipment for street repair, snow plowing, and debris removal
Performing seasonal tasks such as sanding/salting, leaf and brush collection, and storm water maintenance
Supporting traffic safety through pavement marking, signage installation, and signal/light maintenance
Assisting with tree trimming, park maintenance, and community event support
Upholding safety standards and engaging with citizens regarding closures or repairs
Performs street repair and maintenance, including pothole patching, asphalt work, gravel work, and pavement marking assistance
Operates a variety of machines such as dump trucks with a gross vehicle weight over 26,000 lbs., aerial bucket trucks, loaders, skid steers, sweepers, rollers, and related heavy/light equipment
Performs routine equipment maintenance tasks such as fueling, checking fluid levels, replacing belts and filters, changing oil, and greasing chassis. Repairing and changing tires. Making new hydraulic hoses, etc., and perform routine maintenance tasks as directed
Performs seasonal tasks including snow plowing, sanding/salting, leaf collection, brush collection, and debris removal
Locates storm water infrastructure for the diggers hotline
Collects and disposes of garbage from park areas, parking lots, streets and greenways
Performs bridge maintenance/repair tasks
Plows and/or salts all city streets, alleys, sidewalks and parking lots in accordance with winter road and sidewalk procedures and snow emergency ordinance
Sweeps debris from streets, parking lots and alleys
Paints all street markings in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
Participates in on-going equipment and safety training
Removal and trimming of trees within city right-away, parks and other city owned properties
Cutting, chipping and removal of brush and yard waste
Prepares work sites. Erects warning signs and secures area. Maintains knowledge of and implements safety procedures according to MUTCD
Contacts citizens to inform them of street closings/repairs and tree trimming operations
Performs the maintenance, making, inventory and installation of street signs according to MUTCD standards
Maintains traffic signals, crosswalk devices and downtown streetlights
Cleans, maintains, and repairs storm sewers, inlets, culverts, drainage ditches, and basins
Assists with erosion control measures and storm water system inspections
Operates vacuum equipment, pumps, and related storm water maintenance tools
Assists Clerk with elections. May assist with opening and closing of polls
Participates in on-call status and emergencies
Completes and maintains work orders and time sheets
Assists mechanic with machinery maintenance
Perform building maintenance and repairs
Perform concrete flatwork
Assists other City departments with moving furniture, books, etc
Removes road hazards, dead animals
Notifies digger’s hotline of digging operations
General landscaping
Assist in mowing and cleaning up of parks and greenways
Assist with pre-and-post-season maintenance of city parks
Assist parks department with large projects (i.e. new playgrounds, ball diamonds, trails)
Assist civic organizations in helping them with varying activities as directed (i.e. putting up banners, Christmas lights, Syttende Mai activities)
Cemetery maintenance
Install/remove City piers (Spring and Fall)
Ability to work with a variety of carpentry, cement and other hand tools required for jobs
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Must pass a background check, driver's license check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen
Must have a valid driver's license
A commercial driver's license, Class A (pintle hitch) and Class B, with air brakes, and tanker endorsement is required and preferred at the time of hire, or the ability to obtain such licensure within one year of employment
Preferred
Preference given to those candidates who possess one or more of the following: vocational/technical training in street maintenance, one to two years of heavy equipment operating experience
Certification in CPR and first aid preferred or will be required to be obtained after hire
