Director of Accounting
Navigate Search is seeking a seasoned Director of Accounting to lead the full accounting function for a growing, mission-driven organization. This leader will oversee core accounting operations, ensure the integrity of financial reporting, and guide the team through audits and regulatory requirements while partnering effectively across departments.
Responsibilities
Lead the organization’s accounting operations, including general ledger management, month-end close, and financial reporting
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and all applicable regulatory requirements
Oversee preparation of financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports
Manage external audits, including annual financial audits and any required program-specific audits
Strengthen and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation
Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, HR, IT, Finance) to ensure data accuracy and alignment across systems
Provide financial insights and analysis to senior leadership to support planning and strategic initiatives
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement
Drive process optimization and system enhancements to improve efficiency and data integrity
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership of accounting teams
Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and communicate insights clearly
Advanced proficiency in Excel and modern accounting/ERP systems
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and operate in a fast‑paced environment
High level of integrity, judgment, and commitment to accuracy
Preferred
CPA strongly preferred
Experience in a complex, multi‑entity or regulated environment (e.g., healthcare, insurance, nonprofit, or government‑funded programs) is highly valued
