Harris County is seeking an Intake E-filing Clerk for the Probate Department, where the filing process begins. The role involves reviewing and filing pleadings, assisting customers, and ensuring proper documentation and fees are handled correctly.

Responsibilities

Reviews and files pleadings by mail, electronically, or for in-person customers

Checks pleadings for proper language, docket numbers, signatures and notary acknowledgements if required

Searches database to ensure we are not duplicating previously filed estates

Checks previously assigned docket numbers to ensure proper handling and the assessment of fees

Enters information on all instruments presented for filing into the case management system

Time stamps all incoming pleadings

Processes paperwork and generates cash receipts for funds being deposited into the registry of the court

Assists customers in person

Answers phones which may require answering questions regarding procedures, fees and database searches for previously filed estates

Reviews and clears the work queues

Other duties as assigned at the discretion of Management

Required

All applicants must register and take the HRT Clerical Skills Test and score a minimum of 85% with a typing speed of 35 W.P.M. and 80% accuracy

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution

Minimum of one (1) year of paid clerical work experience

Basic proficiency skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications

Must be detail-oriented

Must have good prioritization and organizational skills

Ability to work as a team player and work well with others

Ability to type 35 words per minute with 80% accuracy and 85% accuracy on the clerical skills test

Ability to handle multiple phone lines and multi-task

Ability to display compassion and understanding

Ability to work overtime without prior notification and work flexible hours as required
