The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all books of business while providing leadership and insights to support decision-making.

Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly close process, general ledger, and journal entries
Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
Coordinate the preparation and filing of taxes, including income taxes, sales tax, and other relevant filings
Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Coordinate the closing process, including the reconciliation of accounts and preparation of detailed management reports
Provide leadership and investors with financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support decision-making
Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team, ensuring the team is aligned with Grand Living's goals and performing at a high level
Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and create professional development opportunities for team members
Foster a collaborative work environment and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Assist in the development of each community's annual budget, ensuring alignment with goals and financial objectives
Provide ongoing forecasting and variance analysis to ensure goals are being met
Monitor operational performance and recommend adjustments to meet budgetary targets
Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Ensure proper accounting procedures are followed across all departments
Conduct regular internal audits and work with external auditors to ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and financial regulations
Lead initiatives to improve accounting systems, processes, and workflows, with a focus on increasing efficiency and reducing errors
Stay current with industry’s best practices and regulatory changes to maintain optimal accounting operations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) designation is highly preferred
Seven (7) or more years of experience in financial management, preferably in the senior living or healthcare industry
Three (3) or more years of experience in a leadership role managing people
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and tax laws
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills
Ability to work with senior leadership to develop long-term financial strategies
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and completeness
High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Strong decision-making and critical-thinking abilities
Ability to foster a collaborative and results-oriented team culture
