Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design efforts for large-scale, technically complex projects in GMP environments, including cleanrooms, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities
Develop and validate HVAC system layouts, ensuring proper pressurization, airflow control, and environmental compliance
Oversee the integration of refrigeration, plumbing, and fire protection systems into cohesive MEP designs
Perform and review engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and system selections
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client-specific requirements
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, process engineers, and construction teams
Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers
Support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling from concept through construction
Participate in QA/QC reviews and lead design documentation efforts

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Licensed Engineer with the ability to get licensed in the state of North Carolina (required)
10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on MEP systems
Demonstrated expertise in GMP facility design, including cleanroom classifications and HVAC pressurization strategies. Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences industries
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design tools (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP)
In-depth knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant codes and standards
Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills

Preferred

Familiarity with sustainable design practices (LEED, WELL, etc.)
Experience with design-build or EPCM project delivery models
