Media Services Technician, Level 1 (Provisional)

Responsibilities
Sets up and operates all types of multimedia equipment, components, and systems, including video production and related equipment; sets up, operates, and breaks down a range of multimedia equipment, from basic to high-end audio, video, projection, videoconferencing, sound, and lighting equipment, as well as related desktop or laptop computers
Responsible for the delivery and picking up of all multimedia and computer equipment promptly, making sure that all equipment is in working order when delivered
Notes problems regarding computer, peripheral, multimedia, or communications equipment or regarding the equipment operating environment, and informs the supervisor
Operates video and audio tape duplication equipment; assists in the recording and duplication of tapes for teaching, research, thesis preparation, and transcription for publication, including checking for copyright infringement
Undertakes preventive maintenance, cleans, troubleshoots, and makes minor adjustments and repairs to a variety of multimedia and end-user computer equipment, including such components as videotape recorders, video cameras, video receiver /monitors, projection equipment, portable public address systems, audio tape recorders, desktop and laptop computers, and related equipment. Replaces defective components as necessary
Familiarizes or trains students, faculty, and staff on the proper operation and maintenance of multimedia equipment; provides technical assistance to end users
Assists Media Services and Client Services colleagues with proper security, storage, and transportation of equipment
Maintains supply inventories and storage facilities, accounts for all inventories before and after each event
Maintains inventory records, usage logs, and control sheets. Maintains Media Services requirements and related information on the master calendar; coordinates the master calendar with the supervisor and other staff
Remains compliant with all applicable policies and procedures
Delivers excellent customer service to end-users
Interacts effectively with colleagues across IT, as well as staff in such offices as Special Events, Room Reservations, Facilities, Building Design, Public Safety, and other units at the GC-Fifth and ASRC
Participates in professional development activities and related opportunities to remain familiar with the field
Provides media service support at the GC-Fifth and ASRC buildings
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three (3) years of satisfactory full-time experience in the repair, maintenance and routine operation of various projectors (including slide, filmstrip, opaque, over-head and sound motion picture), and other equivalent electronic equipment (including portable public address systems, digital recorders, and digital cameras); or
A certificate or diploma in radio and television mechanics or related trades from an accredited vocational high school or technical school and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in '1' above; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' and '2' above. Two (2) years of certified experience as a member of a high school audio-visual squad or one (1) year work-study experience in an approved Department of Education program which includes work with audio-visual or related electronic equipment may be substituted for six months of the experience described in '1' above
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York, may be required for certain assignments. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. If appointed to a position requiring a Motor Vehicle Driver License, this license must be maintained for the duration of your employment
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position
Preferred
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
1 to 2 years of experience in A/V & desktop support
Experience with video conferencing systems and streaming and streaming technology such as HyFlex, Polycom, BlueJeans, Vidyo, Zoom, MS Teams, etc
Familiarity with smart classroom technology
