Computer Science Outreach and Onboarding Counselor

Central Washington University is recruiting a Computer Science Outreach and Onboarding Counselor to join their Transfer Center team in Des Moines, Washington. This role focuses on providing pre-admission advice and transition onboarding for prospective and incoming Computer Science students, while also supporting general first-year and transfer students. The counselor will engage in outreach efforts to increase student recruitment and retention, and will work collaboratively with various campus constituents.

Responsibilities

Provide pre-admission advice and transition onboarding for prospective and incoming students
Recruit Computer Science students, while also supporting potential first-year and transfer students
Assist with application assistance, degree planning support, and providing basic information on general education requirements
Conduct outreach to Western Washington high schools, community colleges, and community-based organizations
Help increase the number of incoming students, especially in Computer Science, and improve retention and degree completion rates

Required

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Ability to travel and work irregular hours extensively, including late nights, early mornings, evenings and weekends
Possession and maintenance of a current, valid driver's license and the ability to drive in all weather conditions
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time (driving, fairs, etc.)
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Strong presentation skills, including presentation software experience
Demonstrated experience with large, complex information systems
Demonstrated ability in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, online videoconferencing, and email software to produce written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, receive and respond to inquiries, tasks, or conduct meetings
Demonstrated ability to work independently to accomplish tasks and projects
Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

Preferred

Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Two or more years of documented higher education experience in admission, advising, registrar, and/or other related student services
Demonstrated experience with customer relations management software (e.g., Slate)
Experience providing services for prospective students from high schools, community colleges and/or four-year universities
Experience providing preparation and transition services for transfer students or knowledge and background in admissions, transfer articulation, and/or advising practices and procedures
Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote belonging and sense of community
Experience mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds
Fluency in Spanish
Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education
