Rail/Transit Engineer Intern - Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (Summer 2026)

The intern will assist in engineering design, production of plans, and preparation of technical reports while working collaboratively with engineers on various projects.

Responsibilities

Develop preliminary engineering design and detail engineering design for people mover, light rail, heavy rail, and commuter rails systems
Assist in production of plans, specifications, and estimates for construction
Assist in preparing technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management
Assist engineers in the execution of technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the project
Perform field survey and field test

Required

Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Civil engineering or related fields
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. The individual will develop familiarity with and learn to use the department design software tools
Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
Strong work ethic, willingness to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives
Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
Ability to work full-time during the summer (approximately May-August)
Regular, reliable attendance
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required
