Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive on-site and virtual audits of aerospace materials and process suppliers, including heat treatment, electroplating, plasma spraying, anodizing, welding, machining, and other special processes
Evaluate supplier compliance with aerospace, customer, and industry standards , identify process gaps, and drive effective corrective action implementation
Oversee and technically manage third-party engineering and audit service providers performing delegated audits and process evaluations
Ensure supplier process integrity, capability, and long-term compliance across the aerospace supply base
Lead advanced metallurgical and materials investigations , utilizing stereomicroscopy, metallography, SEM, EDS, fractography, and image analysis techniques
Perform fracture analysis, fatigue assessment, microstructural evaluation, and material integrity reviews across ferrous, non-ferrous, and advanced aerospace materials
Identify root causes of component failures and develop clear, actionable corrective and preventive recommendations aligned with aerospace best practices
Author comprehensive, technically rigorous investigation reports suitable for internal, supplier, and customer review
Clearly communicate investigation methods, data interpretation, conclusions, and recommendations to engineering teams, suppliers, and external customers
Serve as a technical liaison for materials and process engineering topics, supporting customer meetings, program reviews, and technical negotiations
Build and maintain strong customer confidence through consistent, high-quality technical support and disciplined project execution
Plan, coordinate, and execute multiple concurrent engineering projects , managing scope, cost, schedule, and deliverables
Review and approve cost estimates, supplier quotations, and contractor expenditures , ensuring alignment with approved budgets
Maintain complete, compliant engineering documentation, project records, and technical archives in accordance with aerospace quality system requirements
Ensure consistent application of engineering standards, materials specifications, and process documentation across all project outputs
Stay current with evolving aerospace materials technologies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
Mentor junior engineers, provide functional guidance, and contribute to the development of technical capabilities within the Materials Science and R&D organization
Promote continuous improvement in materials engineering practices, supplier oversight, and investigation methodologies
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering (Materials focus), or a closely related discipline
2–4 years of materials and process engineering experience in the aerospace industry (required)
Proven experience conducting materials investigations, metallurgical evaluations, and supplier audits
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical projects and investigations simultaneously
Strong working knowledge across multiple materials science and aerospace manufacturing domains, including corrosion protection systems, heat treatment of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, raw material processing, welding and brazing processes, microstructural evaluation, fatigue, fracture mechanics, galling, aerospace material selection, failure analysis, phase transformations, non-destructive testing, aerospace and government specifications, polymer science, corrosion mechanisms, advanced ceramics and composite materials, electronic and functional material properties
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely
Proficiency with engineering software and analytical tools for data analysis, documentation, and project tracking
Strong organizational and project management skills, including coordination of cross-functional teams
Ability to integrate multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to solve complex, high-impact technical challenges
Capable of guiding work within matrixed and cross-functional environments
Willingness and ability to travel to supplier sites as required
Ability to manage multiple parallel investigations and meet demanding schedules
Strong commitment to technical excellence, professional development, and continuous learning
