The role involves handling patient specimens, assisting in the preparation of tissue samples, and maintaining laboratory organization.

Responsibilities

Accessions patient specimens

Enters patient demographics, clinical history, specimen biopsy information into the laboratory information system; prints and attaches to the original requisition in preparation of case for the Pathologist

Be able to assist putting together cases for distribution to Pathology

Prints out slides and cassettes for patient specimens

Grossing of small biopsies

Assist in preparation of tissue samples, including embedding, cutting and staining of tissue slides

Files slides, blocks, and requisitions

Assist with unpacking supplies – placing them in the proper storage location and dating the appropriate items

Other duties as assigned

Qualification

Lab assistant experienceTissue sample preparationLaboratory information systemHigh school diploma4 year degree

Required

High school diploma or GED equivalent

Combination of education and experience commensurate with responsibilities

Lab assistant experience desired

Preferred

2 or 4 year degree preferred
