Senior Systems Analyst

Houston Forensic Science Center, Inc. is seeking a Senior IT Systems Analyst to play a critical role in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of their networking infrastructure. The role focuses on designing, maintaining, and supporting the organization's network, ensuring high availability and secure access.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain advanced network solutions with a focus on Cisco and Azure route/switch/firewall technologies
Monitor and support enterprise networks, implementing optimizations and ensuring up time through proactive maintenance
Provide expert guidance on network upgrades, configuration strategies, system scalability, and infrastructure security
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support for escalated network issues including WAN, LAN, VPN, Wi-Fi, and firewall environments to ensure consistent access
Maintain and update technical documentation, focusing on network architecture, configurations, and performance/security baselines
Support the deployment and stability of business applications by ensuring secure, reliable network connectivity
Research and recommend hardware/software solutions that enhance network performance and security
Optimize cloud and virtual networking environments for scalability and performance
Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot firewalls in alignment with cybersecurity protocols
Help administer Azure, M365 tools, including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
Oversee system performance with a strong emphasis on network reliability, security, load balancing, and proactive monitoring
Respond to and completes Help Desk tickets along with troubleshooting and supporting end-users
Participation in our on-call support rotation

Required

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field required. Experience may be considered in lieu of the degree
7+ years of applicable experience in information technologies and systems analysis including 5 years of network engineering experience
5+ years of network management within the following infrastructure areas: LAN, WAN, WLAN, and Firewalls
3-5 years of hands-on-experience with installing, configuring, documenting, testing, training, implementing and troubleshooting new applications, infrastructures, and systems with a strong Cisco and Azure networking focus
Proven expertise in managing network infrastructure and related technologies
Cisco CCNA certification
Strong understanding of programming and database tools with the ability to assess their impact on network traffic and performance
Advance understanding of network protocols (e.g., DHCP, DNS, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), L2/L3 switching, and network security best practices
Proficiency in diagramming tools (e.g., Visio) with a strong capability in creating comprehensive documentation for infrastructure designs and disaster recovery plans
Experience with virtual networking in VMware and Azure environments, with the ability to support scalable, high-performance configurations
Hands-on experience with Azure networking, Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and wireless infrastructure is essential
Proficiency in troubleshooting layer 2/3 issues and understanding routing and switching protocols
Familiarity with SolarWinds Network Management suite of applications
Demonstrated ability to configure and manage LAN/WAN networks across complex enterprise environments
Working knowledge of Active Directory and related Windows infrastructure, particularly where it interfaces with network design and segmentation
Strong troubleshooting abilities using advanced tools for network diagnostics and monitoring
Excellent communication skills to relay complex networking concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Proven ability to think critically, solve network-related issues efficiently, and make informed decisions under pressure
A collaborative, service-oriented attitude with a focus on network reliability and user satisfaction
Strong organizational and time management skills, particularly in coordinating network projects or incidents
Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning in networking technologies and emerging trends
