Psychologist I - MEDC
The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice is expanding its team and is seeking licensed psychologists for their secure facilities and community division. The role involves providing psychological evaluations, therapy, and crisis intervention services for youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
Public Safety
Responsibilities
Completes court ordered psychosocial evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and others as needed/assigned, including those needed to assess diagnoses and treatment needs to determine the most appropriate placement
Conducts clinical interviews with youth and family members, record reviews, and consultations with DJJ County Office staff and other agencies involved with the youth
Administers and interprets psychological tests
Provides individual, group, and family treatment services
Completes and maintains youth treatment plans
Communicates and consults with DJJ Community Office staff regarding youth/family progress
Identifies youth with Serious Mental Illness or Intellectual Disability and makes referrals to the appropriate agencies
Participates in interagency staffings and sub-class process regarding these youth
Provides crisis intervention and follow-up services to youth, as well as consultation to staff, as needed during the workday
Provides after-hours on-call crisis intervention services on a rotating basis with other facility clinicians
Provides supervision of evaluation and therapeutic services provided by facility mental health professionals in support and/or absence of facility Clinical Director, as assigned
Provide interdisciplinary trainings to facility mental health professionals and staff
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A doctorate in applied psychology from an accredited college or university and experience in the practice of applied psychology
Thorough knowledge of current psychological theory/practice and psychological evaluation/ assessment techniques
Ability to select/ administer/ interpret psychological tests and effectively communicate findings
Ability to communicate effectively with juveniles, staff, relevant agencies, and the concerned public
Excellent Writing Skills Required
Must be able to work in a secure facility setting and have the confidence/endurance to work in a sometime hostile work environment with youth with varying behavioral health issues and challenges
Must be able to walk, lift 25 lbs
On-call duties are required and must be able to work varied hours if necessary
Preferred
A doctoral degree in applied psychology from an APA accredited program in psychology and experience in the practice of applied psychology
Currently licensed to practice psychology in SC or licensed eligible with ability to obtain licensure within two (2) years of hire
Experience conducting and completing evaluations and providing therapeutic services to youth within a secure environment
