RESEARCH SCHOLAR
Duke University is a leading academic institution renowned for its cutting-edge research in the medical field. The Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology is seeking a Research Scholar to engage in temporary research analyzing genome instability mechanisms in yeast, with a focus on DNA replication and the effects of ultraviolet light on genomic alterations.
EdTechEducationHigher EducationUniversities
Responsibilities
Departmental research activities, specifically important research in analyzing mechanisms that generate genome instability in yeast. One research area will be to determine the effects of various mutants that affect DNA replication on the rates of chromosome rearrangements (deletions, duplications, and translocations) and single-base mutations. A second research area will be to extend the analysis of genomic alterations caused by ultraviolet light (UV). More specifically, you will examine the effects of UV on diploid cells to complement her previous studies in haploid cells. A third area of research will be to monitor genomic alterations that occur in cells that are arrested in G1 of the cell cycle
These experiments will be critical to determining whether non-dividing cells are susceptible to the accumulation of DNA damage. The experimental approaches that will be employed will include whole-genome sequence analysis as well as “classic” genetic techniques (tetrad analysis, transformation, and complementation studies). Results will be critical in understanding the genomic alterations that occur in cancer cells
