Facilities Equipment Technician I HVAC

City of Mesa is seeking a Facilities Equipment Technician I to fill a vacancy in the HVAC/R assignment with the Facilities Management Department. The role involves performing skilled work in HVAC/R systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair, while also supervising other workers when necessary.

Responsibilities

Primarily performs skilled work in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC/R) in City buildings
Perform a wide variety of skilled tasks in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC/R
May also perform skilled tasks in electrical, plumbing, evaporative coolers, and other mechanical equipment
Exercise lead supervision over semiskilled and unskilled workers
Perform other related duties as required
Troubleshooting malfunctions and determining the proper method of repair
Use appropriate safety equipment and procedures in performing assignments

Qualification

HVAC experienceEPA refrigeration certificationEnergy Management SystemsComputer Managed Maintenance SystemElectrical skillsPlumbing skillsMechanical skillsSupervisory skills

Required

Successful completion of an HVAC apprenticeship program (must provide written certification)
Considerable (3 - 5 years) commercial, journey-level HVAC experience
Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date
Must possess an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refrigeration certification card
Pass a background investigation through the City of Mesa Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Federal Bureau of Investigation
Subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing

Preferred

Good (1 - 3 years) experience in a related trade
Knowledge of computers and Energy Management Systems
Training and experience in low temperature refrigeration
