Responsibilities
Manages and implements the processes of trade finance products adhering to international standard, government regulations, bank policies and procedures to minimize operational, administrative and compliance risks for Bank of Hawaii. Ensures that transactions are properly documented; processed in adherence to Bank policies and procedures; International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) rules: Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits Publication No. 500 (UCP 500); International Standby Practices 1998 (ISP98); Uniform Rules for Bank-to-Bank Reimbursements (URR525); Uniform Rules for Collections (URC522) as applicable. Keeps abreast of regulations governing trade finance products to ensure that processes and controls exist
Utilizes expertise in the knowledge of documentary credits, standby letter of credit, documentary collections, wire transfer to provide technical assistance, import and export trading mechanism to Internal and external clients. Proactively identifies document risk, compliance risk, process issues and business needs. Works directly with internal and external customers in researching and responding to requests for information and in resolving complex situations and problems. Identifies cross-selling and process improvement opportunities
Plans, organizes, and administrates the activities of the department. Ensures the accuracy of accounting entries generated by bank systems. Reconciles department’s general ledger, resolves error postings if occurred. Submits accurate reports to other departments for control and regulatory reporting purposes. Timely processes transaction tracking, collection of trade service fees and payment to relative line of business
Manages and provides training and supervision to unit personnel. Maintains on-going cross-training program to ensure adequate coverage with no interruption in service standard. Evaluates performance and recommends salary adjustments. Arranges for or, if necessary, provides coverage for staff members to help assure appropriate resources to meet overall needs of internal and external clients
Utilizes various computer systems. Identifies system problems and resolves directly with internal and external system support personnel if problems occurred. Requires knowledge to operate some system functions of bank’s trade finance system such as: managing customer database, account opening, incoming and outgoing messages batching process, front-end system operations
Performs all other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 5 years experience in Banking operations, customer service skills and supervisory experience
Working knowledge of International Chamber of Commerce Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credit Publication No. 500, Uniform Rules for Bank-to-Bank Reimbursements under Documentary Credits Publication No. 525, International Standby Practices (ISP98), Uniform Rules for Collections Publication No. 522 governing trade finance products and other applicable regulations issued by U.S. Government Departments and Agencies
Excellent computer skills, applications for spreadsheets including Excel, Word, etc
Ability to work with minimum direction, exercise sound judgement, ability to function under 'high pressure' conditions and meet deadlines
Must be available to work some evenings, weekends and holidays
Individuals in this position are expected to have the following working knowledge and experience with some oversight: Trade finance products, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Uniform and Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits Publication No. 500, ICC International Standby Practices ISP98 Publication No. 590, ICC Uniform Rules for Bank-to-Bank Reimbursements under Documentary Credits Publication URR525, ICC Uniform Rules for Collection Publication URC522, BOH policies and procedures regarding trade finance, Knowledge of regulations governing trade finance products, Assist internal and external clients regarding trade finance products, Train and supervise staff members, Evaluating performance and recommending salary adjustments for staff members, Assist in maintaining on-going cross training program to ensure adequate coverage with no interruption in service standards, Some knowledge to operate system functions of Trade finance systems
