Responsibilities

The Section Chief of the Bankruptcy & Collection Unit manages two attorneys and five support staff
BCU primarily represents the three state tax agencies and the Division of Child Support in bankruptcy cases nationwide
The Unit provides legal advice and training for the agencies’ bankruptcy practice and collection efforts, represents the state tax agencies in state court litigation primarily regarding collection on bonds, and provides assistance to AAGs in other divisions
This position is assigned to the Bankruptcy and Collections Unit of the Revenue & Finance Division and manages the BCU
The Section Chief is responsible for BCU's budget and supervises all BCU employees
This position also provides client advice, litigation support, and training on bankruptcy and collection matters to the Departments of Revenue, Employment Security, Labor & Industries, and Division of Child Support
The Section Chief supports the AGO's mission by contributing high quality, independent legal representation to our clients with the highest standards of excellence, ethics, and effectiveness

Required

Graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
Licensed to practice law in Washington State (or actively pursuing admission)
Knowledgeable about bankruptcy and collections laws, garnishments, federal and state court practice and procedure, child support law, and state tax agency collection practices
Experience in motion practice and presenting oral arguments in the superior/bankruptcy courts
Excellent writing, editing, communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
Good with numbers in terms of budgets and debt determinations
Commitment to public service as demonstrated by background, talents, attitude, and enthusiasm for public law practice
