Responsibilities

Oversee all disengagement-related processes, including case drops, referrals, sub-outs, and transfers of both California and out-of-state cases
Evaluate case files to determine appropriateness for disengagement, referral, or sub-out
Draft, review, and approve disengagement letters, referral agreements, sub-out agreements, and all other transition-related communications
Ensure compliance with ethical rules, State Bar requirements, and jurisdiction-specific rules related to out-of-state case transitions
Coordinate with attorneys, paralegals, and case managers to prepare complete and accurate files prior to disengagement or transfer
Communicate with clients regarding disengagement decisions, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and compliance with all applicable regulations
Conduct legal analysis to identify risks associated with disengaging or transferring both in-state and out-of-state cases
Maintain accurate and organized records of all disengaged, referred, sub-out, or transferred cases
Provide guidance and training to staff involved in disengagements, including jurisdiction-specific procedures for out-of-state matters
Monitor and manage workflow to ensure timely processing and avoid liability issues related to deadlines or case transitions

Required

Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active license to practice law in California
1+ years of experience in personal injury law or a related field
Familiarity with referral, sub-out, and disengagement procedures, including out-of-state case transitions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess case viability and risk
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
Experience handling sensitive conversations with professionalism and empathy
Ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, case managers, and operational teams
