Communications & Public Engagement Intern

City of Lubbock is seeking a Communications & Public Engagement Intern to assist their team with various communication tasks. The role involves supporting external and internal communications, public relations, and media relations, as well as helping with event setups and social media monitoring.

Responsibilities

Help disseminate external and/or internal information from the C&PE Department
Assist in set up of public meetings, press conferences, video shoots and City sponsored events as needed
Help with social media monitoring
Participate in brainstorming creative aspects and strategies of marketing, public relations and social media campaigns
Assist in Print Shop as needed
Additional duties as assigned

Required

Current undergraduate in Journalism, Public Relations, or a communications-related field
Strong oral and written communication
Proactive and detail-oriented
Understanding of social media platforms
Knowledge of copywriting and editing
Knowledge of principles and practices of public and/or media relations
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs
Knowledge of AP Style components
Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships
Ability to gather information and present it in a proper manner for public consumption
Ability to take direction and constructive criticism
Ability to clearly communicate at multiple organizational levels
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
