Responsibilities

Providing training to level I machinists regarding machine operation, machining techniques, and manufacturing processes
Performing set-up and operation of 5-axis milling and/or lathe machines. Inspecting finish tools
Performing intermediate level TruePath and/or Mastercam operations
Performing prototype support for machining programs generated by programmers. Ensuring proper use of programs and tools during prototyping and production. Giving prompt recognition of program defects or shortcomings to project managers
Provide support programming for 5-axis programming, to include preliminary operations including but not limited to holes or slots, and writing or customizing main programs to maximize unmanned machine run time
Performing Lathe live tooling where applicable
Being alert to any changes in machine performance and operation, promptly reporting any issues to maintenance department and working with them to make sure that issues are resolved
Performing daily maintenance on machines
Advising and consulting with product development engineers, programmers and/or tooling department for cutting tools and tooling needed to complete projects
Designing, building and maintaining fixtures, tooling and set-ups for use in specified projects as assigned by the product development engineers or supervisor
Inspecting and documenting all operations as stated in Quality Manual and based on requirements of the product development engineers
Supporting and maintaining overall shop efficiency by keeping work areas clean and safe. Reporting all hazards or incidents to supervisor. Cooperating and coordinating with other machinists for usage of shared shop equipment
Performing other duties as necessary

Required

High school diploma or GED equivalent
3 or more years' experience as CNC Mill and/or Lathe machinist including set-up, and programming
Proficient in trigonometry
Experience with TruePath and/or Mastercam (or equivalent software)
Advanced knowledge of GD&T and ANSI Y 14.5
Read and understand blueprints and use metrology tools
Ability to interpret and act on SPC data
Basic understanding of how different metals affect the choice of cutting tools, and speeds and feeds
Requires lifting and carrying of up to 30 lbs. or more and standing for extended periods of time

Preferred

Associates Degree in machining or approved apprenticeship program
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel and ERP software (Epicor helpful)
