Assistant Production Manager

Responsibilities
Ensure the most safe, efficient, and economical operation of the plant
Manage the shipping, hydrate and kiln operation in a manner consistent with the vision of LNA
Involved in establishing the targets and priorities for the shipping, hydrate and kiln operations to ensure consistent performance around the set plant KPI’s (production, maintenance, quality and cost)
Responsible for the execution of the objectives in the shipping, hydrate, and kiln operation sections in the plant consistent with Company and Corporate objectives; support the development and the implementation of a strategic plan to meet the objectives; and the monthly and annual review of objective results
Communicate effectively with all employees on all levels
Clearly understand and communicate the operation vision to your assigned department and team members
Timely response to both internal and external customer demands
Monitor overall department performance for production and quality standards to ensure they are being met
Ensures that all products produced and shipped to customers from the plant meet quality and customer requirements along with timely delivery
Involved in providing input and suggestion for the plant annual budgeting process
Engaged in providing suggestion for potential capital project requests to improvement the shipping and production processes in the plant
Manage manpower utilization in the shipping, hydrate, and kiln operations while reviewing request for increases in the workforce if necessary and build the business case to justify the request
Delegates authority to key team members around safety, process controls, quality control, and shipping duties and responsibilities as directed
Coordinate plant activities through planning with other members of the plant management team to ensure plant objectives are met in an effective and efficient manner
Provide leadership and mentoring to team members in order to accomplish and achieve plant goals and objectives
Provide direction, development, encourage collaboration, and leadership to all team members in area of responsibility
Provides a strong visional presence and professional leadership style for your team through being active in the plant and providing support and removing bottlenecks as needed
Provide quick and accurate responses to other functional areas such as Supply Chain/Logistics, Finance, and HR
Provide accurate and consistent direction and understand of the collective bargaining agreement for the hourly workforce. Responsible for working with the Sr. Operations Manager and Plant Managers on timely and accurately responses to grievances as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Proven leadership, management and supervisory experience is required
Must be capable of working any shift, on-call, overtime, or seven days a week, if needed
Ability to plan and direct the work of salaried and hourly personnel and to train and develop an effective and efficient workforce
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong presentation and public speaking skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines
Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs
Strong understanding of safety, environmental, and the desire to following all established procedures are required
Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software
High School Diploma or GED
4 - 6 years industrial of experience a mining, construction, and/or heavy manufacturing environment in a proven leadership role
Preferred
Knowledge of refractory brick usage and installation is desired
Prior experience in heavy industry with large rotating equipment is desired
Prior experience in shipping and lime processes is desired
Training and experience leading Lean and/or Six Sigma in solving difficult problems is a plus
Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations and their impact on operations compliance desired
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or other Engineering discipline and additional leadership training and certifications
7-10 years industrial lime experience in proven leadership role
