Computer Specialist Series
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking a Computer Specialist Series to support electronic and electromechanical assemblies related to test equipment. The role involves performing supportability analysis, developing test plans, and providing technical support during the acceptance testing process.

Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for performing the supportability analysis of electronic and electromechanical assemblies associated with the Contractually obligated Test Equipment
The selected candidate will review, comment and report on documents, schematics and drawings; attend vendor design reviews; and participate in the acceptance testing and first article hardware and software
Responsibilities include but are not limited to; the review, development and execution of test plans; problem resolution; execution and validation of fault insertion demonstrations
Performance monitoring and software configuration compliance; assisting in the testing and debugging of hardware and embedded software within vendor supplied test equipment during the acceptance process and preparation of documentation for management of personnel and test procedure development
Using physical operating specifications and test parameters of circuit boards and higher order modules, test program software shall be written and integrated on a functional test platform to allow for functional testing and troubleshooting of electronic boards or modules
Additional responsibilities will also include the development of test procedures and test programs to be hosted on various in-house automatic test equipment platforms in support of the test equipment; full life cycle project management; hands-on installation, upgrade and testing of various bench test equipment platforms; liaise with various support and material vendors, inhouse maintenance groups and user departments and provide technical support and knowledge transfer (as required) to shop staff
Qualification
Required
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, maintenance and support, systems programming, data communications, mainframe development, mobile development, web development and design, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in '1' above, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or '2' above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in '2' above on the basis that 60 semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience
A master's degree in computer science or a related computer field, or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of the required experience in '1' or '2' above
A certificate from an accredited technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in computer operations plus a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory, full-time computer operations experience in a large-scale mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment, or three years of satisfactory data communications network experience in a mainframe or multi-tiered computer environment, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in '1' above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in '1' above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
Education and/or experience equivalent to '1', '2', or '3' above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of satisfactory full-time computer operations or data communications network experience as described in '1' above, one year of which must have been in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, in addition to the Qualification Requirements stated above, individuals must have one additional year of satisfactory experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
Preferred
Experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and other electronic testing devices
Ability to calibrate equipment and perform routine maintenance to ensure accurate testing
Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose issues in electronic circuits and systems
Understanding of analog and digital circuit design and operation
Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams and schematics
Proficiency in using the Linux command line for file management, process monitoring, and system configuration
Basic skills in managing user permissions, software installation, and troubleshooting Linux-based systems
Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Perl for automation and testing tasks
Understanding of programming fundamentals (e.g., loops, conditionals, functions) to write and modify scripts or code as needed; additionally National Instruments testing equipment. LabView and Test Stand
