Responsibilities
Lead the Financial Accounting team
Manage the monthly accounting cycle checklist and calendar
Perform month-end close procedures
Monitor bank and investment account activity
Maintain accounting for a joint venture
Prepare profitability estimates (weekly), financial statements (monthly, quarterly, annually), board reports (quarterly, annually) and regular internal accounting reports and financial committee reports
Provide financial reports and data to external collaborators
Perform weekly cash analysis
Assist Director of Business Operations and CEO with cash flow projections, budget, and financial forecasts including ESOP-related expense estimates
Provide information for income tax reporting, tax planning, FAR audits, census requirements, and contract compliance; interface with support firms
Prepare and submit various business tax forms and complete annual 1099 reporting
Ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with GAAP for Time and Materials with and without limits, Fixed Fee
Provide reports for reconciling unbilled and revenue recognition
Conduct payroll general ledger entries and monthly job cost variance entries and reconciliation
Back-up payroll as needed and work with payroll specialist on quarterly differential pay
Provide training or mentoring and participate in annual reviews for financial accounting team
Assist with management of the ERP system (Deltek Vantagepoint)
Ensure accounting documentation is complete, maintained, and meets company standards
Ensure that quality assurance procedures are followed, including review of lessons learned, correct period recording, transaction cut-off controls, proper electronic records, and workpaper standards
Periodic review of, testing, and updating or creating existing documentation
Work with the Director of Business Operations and the IT Manager to implement automated workflows in Deltek Vantagepoint
Qualification
Required
10+ years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in Controller or equivalent role
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related discipline
Experience working with payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes
Experience with compliance including income tax, business tax, use tax, US Census, US government contracting compliance reporting, or similar
Strong knowledge of GAAP, management accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting
Knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint or similar ERP used for project/management accounting
Knowledge of financial concepts, practices, and procedures in the AEC industry
Comprehensive understanding of standard commercial contracting terms
Intermediate to advanced MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat skills
Preferred
CPA or CMA preferred but not required
