Postdoctoral Fellow- MCG Vascular Biology Center

The Postdoctoral Fellow at the Vascular Biology Center will engage in advanced scientific, technical, and administrative work to support research efforts focused on cardiovascular diseases, including data collection, analysis, and publication of results.

Responsibilities

Analyze results of experiments and procedures manually or using computational softwares
Perform vascular microsurgeries to model AVF, wire injury, and aortic aneurysm formation
Perform in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo mechanism studies on VSMC phenotypic adaptation in these diseases
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while insuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines
Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects
Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally
Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others
Discuss with principal investigators, other postdocs, students, and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities
Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned

Required

MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university

Preferred

Strong research background in vascular cell pathophysiology, flow cytometry or fluorescence imaging or protein-protein interaction or molecular biology or signaling pathways using multiple experimental techniques including cell culture, RNA analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation, performing mouse breeding, genotyping, and routine experiments such as cloning, western blot, immunoprecipitation and immunohistochemistry analyses
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Good organizational skills, detail-oriented and ability to prioritize tasks
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work independently with only general supervision
Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines
