Responsibilities

Oversee the daily operations of the Microbiology section of the laboratory

Maintain a daily schedule of personnel to ensure all sections of the laboratory are adequately staffed for the specimen volume

Oversee/participate in the technical operations including QA/QC checks, system maintenance issues, accuracy of test results, and general sample troubleshooting

Oversee laboratory staff in the performance of qualitative and quantitative test procedures

Act as reference source for technologists in the correlation of test data

Implement solutions to problems in processing and delivering highly accurate patient data

Participate in QA/QC concerns, which relate to result data delivery and patient care

Participate in the orientation and training of staff

Serve as contact person for calls from nursing units and physicians

Track and respond to questions relating to testing procedures and results

Qualification

ASCP certificationBachelor's degreeNew York State licensureLaboratory supervisory experienceLab policiesCommunication skills

Required

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science

New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure from the New York Education department

Minimum of 4 years of experience as a technologist, or 2 years of experience with a Master's degree

Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures

Strong communication skills

Preferred

ASCP certification

Master's degree in Medical Technology or related science

Laboratory supervisory experience

Experience with laboratory regulations and/or CAP inspections
