Stationary Engineer (Electric)

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for enriching the environment and protecting public health for New Yorkers. They are seeking a Stationary Engineer (Electric) to operate, inspect, repair, and adjust high and low voltage electrically powered equipment while supervising the work of other employees and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.

Responsibilities

Operate, inspect, repair and adjust high and low voltage electrically powered equipment, including diesel engines, generators, motors, transformers, pumps, heat exchangers, converters, rectifiers, controllers, switchboards, motor control centers, circuit breakers, heating systems, HVAC, air compressors, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and related electromechanical equipment
Operate and maintain emergency equipment, including portable generators
Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret inflow and infiltration drawings, and blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic prints as they pertain to existing and new equipment installation
Read, develop and understand Energy Control Procedures, use lock out tag out procedures and prepare standard operating/safety procedures
Be in responsible charge of a wastewater treatment plant or collections facility
Coordinate and supervise the work of Oilers, SSTWs and other employees, conduct and review performance evaluations, maintains, creates and/or reviews staffing schedules, and creates, schedules and prioritizes Preventative Maintenance and Critical Maintenance
Coordinate and schedule vendor and contractor repairs
Interact with the public in a professional manner, and maintain working relationships with Con Edison and other NYC agencies

Required

Five years of full-time satisfactory experience in responsible charge of the operation of plants or facilities utilizing high tension electrical equipment (600 volts or more), including troubleshooting and repairing such equipment, in one or more of the following: electrical generating stations, electrical switching stations, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, water pumping stations, wastewater pumping stations, other collections facilities or high volume ventilation systems
Two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in '1' above, and a baccalaureate degree in electrical, civil or mechanical engineering or in electrical, civil or mechanical engineering technology from an accredited college or university
Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in '1' above and an associate degree in science or applied science from an accredited college or university with a major in water quality monitoring, wastewater treatment plant operations, environmental health, environmental control, or in electrical mechanical, or in civil technology, or in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering technology
Two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in '1' above plus three years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician
Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician, including three years of full-time satisfactory experience troubleshooting and repairing high tension electrical equipment (600 volts or more) as that described in '1' above
A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to '1', '2', '3', '4', or '5' above. Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that one year of experience will be credited for each 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university leading to a baccalaureate or associate degree in one of the disciplines described in '2' or '3' above. However, all candidates must have at least two years of satisfactory experience as described in '1' above, except for candidates who qualify under '5' above
Candidates appointed to the Wastewater Treatment Plants operated by the Department of Environmental Protection must obtain certification as a Grade 3A Operator of Public Sewage Treatment Plants by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation within eighteen (18) months of appointment. This certification must be maintained for the duration of the assignment
Candidates must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment
