Prototype Machinist

Responsibilities

Set up and operate conventional and CNC machining centers to produce prototype components for R&D
Utilize CAD/CAM software (Mastercam preferred) to create and verify CNC programs
Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements, tolerances, and sequence of operations
Select, create, and align fixtures, tools, and materials for various machining operations (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.)
Verify dimensions and tolerances of machined parts and assemblies to ensure conformance to specifications
Assemble components into prototype assemblies and confirm dimensional accuracy and alignment
Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve machining and assembly issues
Perform manual and CNC machining operations, adjusting parameters such as speed, feed, depth of cut, and coolant flow
Conduct trial runs and adjust programs or setups to verify accuracy and repeatability
Create tool paths and maintain accurate documentation of CNC programs, setup sheets, and inspection records
Maintain an organized workload schedule to ensure timely delivery of prototypes
Perform routine maintenance and calibration of machines, tools, and work area

Required

5+ years of experience as a machinist, including CNC setup and operation (prototype or R&D environment preferred)
Proficiency in Mastercam or comparable CAD/CAM software
Strong understanding of GD&T, materials, tooling, and machining processes
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models
Experience with manual and CNC milling, turning, and grinding operations
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and communication skills
Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
