Aluminum Modeling Engineer Co-op
Novelis is a leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, providing sustainable aluminum solutions across various markets. The Computational Modeling Co-op will develop physics-based and data-driven models to enhance aluminum alloy research and product design while collaborating with R&D teams and preparing technical reports.

Responsibilities
Develop finite-element models accounting for material microstructure and properties with product/process information
Develop python scripts to parametrize and automate model creation geared towards intelligent experimentation/design optimization
Leverage experimental and simulation data to build data-driven models aimed at accelerated prediction
Collaborate with other R&D teams to enable model-driven design guidance
Prepare technical reports and presentations to share knowledge and findings across R&D
Qualification
Required
Student pursuing B.S., M.S., or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
Minimum 3 years into program if in B.S
2+ Years of experience with Python
Preferred
Experience with mechanical engineering software (e.g. FEM such as Abaqus/LS Dyna/AutoForm, Solidworks, etc.)
Machine learning and data science experience
Experience with tools leveraging GPUs for accelerated computing
Experience with advanced AI methods – GANs, VAEs, Reinforcement Learning, RNNs, etc
Experience or knowledge of metals industry or sheet metal applications
Experience with leadership and interpersonal roles
