Responsibilities

Inspect all aspects of Public Works Construction on capital improvement and development projects

Ensure construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards, and specifications

Communicate and coordinate with office personnel and contractors regarding scheduling, construction methods, public safety, and field problems

Coordinate and review testing on water, sanitary sewer, concrete, and soils

Review and confirm quantities for payment on capital improvement projects

Maintain ‘as built’ conditions on field plans

Responsible for efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment

Required

Ability to accurately read and interpret civil construction plans and specifications

Working knowledge of public safety and construction site safety requirements

Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, drag and hold up to 50 lbs

Walk for extended periods of time while performing inspection duties

Climb and crawl into and out of pipes, culverts, manholes, and trenches

Kneel, sit, squat, stand, stoop, and twist while performing inspection duties

Hear and visually inspect work safely in traffic and dangerous construction situations

Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, developers and the general public

Be able to work indoors and outdoors, including adverse weather conditions, such as extreme cold, heat, heights, temperature swings, and noise

High school diploma or equivalent

State of Texas drivers license, Class C

Four years of Public Works construction inspection experience or combined experience and training providing the required knowledge, skills and ability

Additional training or experience in related field
