Distribution Systems Intern - Piedmont Electric

North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives is seeking a Distribution Systems Intern to work alongside distribution cooperative engineering staff. The successful candidate will gain practical experience in power systems through analytical desktop work and field experience, while learning about the entire spectrum of the power industry.

Responsibilities

Work under the supervision of Piedmont Electric staff to complete project assignments
Coordinate project assignments, milestones, and deadlines with the cooperative team
Apply technical problem-solving skills to recommend improvements to existing processes
Assist with the analysis of data
Communicate research and results to the team through reports and development of presentations
Develop and advance current professional skills
Learn as much as possible!

Qualification

Electrical EngineeringPower SystemsSCADA OperationsThree-Phase PowerMicrosoft OfficeCommunication Skills

Required

Pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree with an interest in power systems or control systems
Ideally students should be enrolled in or have taken course work related to electric power or control systems
Familiar with three-phase power concepts
Entering their Junior or Senior level course work
Must be able to communicate effectively with others, written and verbal, including reports and presentations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required

Preferred

Experience with SCADA operations, SEL RTACs, relays, and metering is a plus
A basic knowledge of the electric utility industry and three-phase power concepts is desirable
Access and VBA are a plus
