Operational Technology Engineering Intern

North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives is one of the largest generation and transmission cooperatives in the nation. The Operational Technology (OT) Engineering Intern will support the Control Systems team by maintaining and enhancing the OT infrastructure, troubleshooting issues, and assisting with data analysis and integration tasks.

Responsibilities

Assist in developing and maintaining NCEC’s OT systems, including design, database structure, integrations, and functionality

Provide support for OT applications to ensure system uptime and performance

Help with system upgrades, including testing new functionality and user interface improvements

Perform basic data analysis and reporting tasks to support operational decisions

Collaborate with team members on integration projects and documentation

Required

Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or another analytically intensive field

Interest in the power/energy industry and emerging technologies

Basic understanding of communication technologies, databases, and IT concepts is helpful

Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools

Willingness to learn tools such as SQL, Python, and Databricks

Strong desire to learn and grow within the energy sector

Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with guidance from mentors

Preferred

Coursework or interest in power systems, energy technologies, or data analytics is preferred

Prior experience is not required, but exposure to the power/energy industry, engineering projects, or IT systems is a plus

Familiarity with SCADA, DER/DR, or related technologies is desirable but not mandatory
